The project CircularBuild – Development and Validation of the Concept of Circularity Applied to Modular Prefabricated Construction, funded by the EEA Grants and managed by the General Secretariat for the Environment, operator of the Environment Programme in Portugal, aims to investigate solutions based on alternative materials for the panels of the prefabricated modular system of CONCEXEC – Arquitetura, Lda., in a perspective of circularity, allowing total reuse of the waste generated, without compromising the building performance in terms of energy efficiency, consequently contributing to the new paradigm of “Zero Carbon Buildings“.
PROMOTER
CONCEXEC – Arquitetura, Lda.
Website: www.concexec.pt
CONCEXEC – Arquitetura, Lda., specializing in the conception and execution of architectural, engineering, design, urban planning, management, and construction inspection projects, has a modular prefabricated construction system consisting of a set of prefabricated panels with: aluminum profiles, thermal and acoustic insulation and exterior panels, which allows constructions of almost zero energy needs, as well as a minimal impact on the soil by laying the building on dry piles.
The project CircularBuild – Development and Validation of the Concept of Circularity Applied to Modular Prefabricated Construction arises in response to the company commitment to minimizing the environmental impact of modular construction, increasing its level of sustainability.
PARTNER
LNEC (Laboratório Nacional de Engenharia Civil, I.P.)
Website: www.lnec.pt
LNEC – Laboratório Nacional de Engenharia Civil (National Laboratory for Civil Engineering) is a public research institute, dedicated to Science and Technology, which carries out its activity in the multiple domains of Civil Engineering. Its scope of activity includes Public Works, infrastructures, housing and urban planning, hydraulics and water resources, transports, environment, construction materials and other products. Its main objectives are the safety and quality of the works, the protection and conservation of the natural and built heritage, as well as technological innovation in the construction sector and in the areas of water and environment. Activities related to regulation, standardization and construction quality are also relevant in LNEC.
PARTNER
RISE Fire Research AS
Website: risefr.com
RISE Fire Research is a research centre actively involved in research, fire safety engineering, testing and certification, that also provides scientific support for the development of standards and regulations and finding technical solutions for the evaluation of products and systems.
It is distinguished by being qualified to carry out a set of fire resistance tests directed to the materials/solutions for construction applications: Testing of civil construction elements and structures in horizontal and vertical ovens; Testing of passive fire protection materials exposed to specific conditions; Testing of building elements and structures in a small-scale oven (pilot) for the purpose of verifying or developing small-scale products; And assessments based on standardized fire tests and technical experience.
PARTNER
Cluster Habitat Sustentável
Website: www.centrohabitat.net
The Sustainable Habitat Cluster, managed by the project partner Association Platform for Sustainable Construction, is one of the competitiveness clusters officially recognized by the Portuguese government since 2009, whose mission is to aggregate companies, R&D centres, and other agents involved in the Habitat value chain (building materials, construction and real estate) to jointly develop a more sustainable habitat (buildings, cities and infrastructures) through innovation. From the beginning, the strategic vision of the cluster has been innovation through sustainability to strengthen companies’ competitiveness through cooperation.
With more than 150 members, it has participated and mobilized several projects and other initiatives in this field of sustainable construction.
On the 17th of February the CircularBuild Project Kick-Off Event took place!
This event, which took place via videoconference, had 125 participants and, as speakers, the promoter of the project CONCEXEC – Arquitetura, Lda. and its partners LNEC – National Laboratory of Civil Engineering, RISE Fire Research and the Sustainable Habitat Cluster. The event also counted with the presence of Dr. Susana Escária on behalf of the General Secretariat for the Environment and Energy Transition. (View more)
